Being someone who struggles with anxiety and depression in this crazy fucked up world, this book was very welcoming. Haig doesn't talk to the reader as if they don't know what they are talking about nor with just facts. He uses his own experiences to try and help those who are seeking it. He shows the reader that they are not alone, the world is a trigger that affects so many people.
Now, I'm not normally the type of person who marks up a book - not with a pen, that would be horrible, but with small bookmarks. But, while I was reading this, I had so many 'markers' that it was difficult to close the book all the way! I was sharing quote after quote with everyone I know. This book has so much insight in such a small container.
Haig breaks up the different struggles in 18 chapters, which seems like a lot, but it flies by so quickly. Haig makes it easy to read and understand and even connect with him in these 18 chapters. One of my favorite parts, one where you truly connect to Haig in a personal way, is on page 134.
"Anyway, I've just realized it's now afer midnight as I type these words. I better close my laptop. And I'm going to try to fall asleep without even checking my phone."
- Matt Haig, Notes on a Nervous Planet
It is so easy to connect with the author in this book because Haig makes little remarks similar to this which just hit you right in the soul.
All in all, this is one of the best personal growth books I have ever read, and I don't normally read personal growth. I suggest this to anyone who wants to understand the world and why everyone in the world, is so nervous. Or if your like me, or know someone like me, this book will help.
