You know that nagging feeling that you know someone, or you've seen something before, that deja vu feeling? Welcome to Lucinda Price's world of Sword & Cross. Daniel Grigori, a mysterious boy who Luce has that nagging feeling she knows. But he is avoiding her like the plague. But Daniel is not the only one with a mysterious past - Sword & Cross is not an ordinary school. Sword & Cross is a boarding school, for delinquents. But why is Luce here? Why does s

he feel like she knows Daniel? Why is he avoiding her?

I first heard of this book through my brother, and I read it when I was a freshman in high school - the first time... 'Fallen' captures your attention from the very first page with the mystery and the writing style that Lauren Kate uses. Kate uses description to hold your attention as she creates this world for her characters to flourish in. She paints the picture very clearly, not just of the world she created, but also the characters. You can clearly picture the characters Kate created and placed in front of us, not just their appearances but who they are. Kate makes it so you can relate to her characters, but also makes them their own people.

This story is told from the point of view of Luce. Luce makes an impression on the reader right away. The book starts off giving us a slight background on Luce. It also shows us the troubles that she goes through becoming the new student at Sword & Cross. Showing these struggles that she deals with becoming a new student makes it more relatable to the reader, as it makes us realize that she could possibly be a real person, you could pass her on the street. Making it so the characters are more relatable makes the story more enjoyable and you become connected to these characters the more you read.

Having said all this, Fallen by Lauren Kate is a wonderful read and captures your attention from the very first page. I would suggest this to anyone who loves fantasy or is looking for some romance in their lives!
